One building permit from a city open-data portal (New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, San Francisco, Seattle, New Orleans or Cincinnati), in one schema: the permit number, issue and application dates, permit type and the list of trades, description, permit status, address, ZIP and coordinates, declared job value with a flag for placeholder values of $1 or less, the contractor name where the city publishes one (owner names are never returned), how many portal rows were combined into this permit, and a link to the source dataset. A permit that the portal spreads over several rows is one permit and one charge. Rows that only explain a search that was rejected, matched nothing, was skipped or could not be read are never charged.
