One NHTSA record for one vehicle. A recall row carries the NHTSA campaign number, the manufacturer, the component, the date the report was received, the summary, the consequence and the remedy, plus the park-it, park-outside and over-the-air-fix flags. A complaint row carries the ODI number, the components, whether a crash or fire was reported, the number of injuries and deaths, the incident and filing dates and the 11-character VIN prefix NHTSA publishes. A safety rating row carries the NCAP overall, front, side and rollover stars. Recall dates arrive as DD/MM/YYYY and complaint dates as MM/DD/YYYY at the source; both are converted to ISO and the original string is kept. A make, model or year NHTSA does not have, a vehicle with no records, a failed request and a filter that matched nothing are each returned as their own row and are never charged.
